October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month. We would be remiss in our duties if we didn’t let you know about the best ways that you can protect yourself and your data.
Here are some tips to keep your information secure.
Lock up your devices!
Never leave any of your devices unattended for any length of time.
If you aren’t using your devices, lock them up. This denies access to anyone with malicious intent.
If you have a flash drive or any other portable hard drives that you use, be sure to lock them up when not in use as well.
Beware of where you browse!
When you are visiting sensitive websites such as banking or online shopping, be sure to visit them on a device that belongs to you. This should also only be done on a Wi-Fi network that you trust. Beware of your favorite café’s free Wi-Fi; it’s an easy way to get your data copied or stolen.
Practice good password management!
Passwords are one of the most important things protecting your data. As such, each password you use should different for every site you login into.
Each password you construct should be a strong mix of letters, numbers and symbols.
Always remember to never share your passwords with others, and don’t write them on post-it notes and leave them on your monitor.
